Hathway caught indulging in Piracy

Complaint under section 379 IPC lodged against Mr. Jayraman, Managing Director, Hathway and Mr. Dharmesh Goyel, Managing Director, Bhaskar Net

New Delhi, Aug 11, 2008: Hathway which is one of the biggest defaulting MSOs for not signing the Ten Sports agreement with Zee Turner is now caught pirating the signals of the said channel. Due to non sign up of Ten Sports agreement, Zee Turner in the last 10 days has switched off Hathway’s major head ends in Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Aurangabaad, Kohlapur, Bhopal and indore.

It had also created a special anti piracy squad that is keeping a close tab on the above head ends against piracy of Ten Sports signals. A raid was conducted yesterday by the court appointed commissioner in close coordination with state police to bust the piracy operations of one of the major Hathway operating partners, Bhaskar Net based in Bhopal and Indore.

The raid was conducted in the afternoon during which raiding officials were also roughed up by Bhaskar Net's staff. All the evidences of piracy and man handling have been collected by the court appointed commissioner and the same will be handed over to Delhi High Court. Meanwhile, the equipment involved in piracy is also seized in Bhopal.

A complaint under section 379 IPC is lodged against Managing Director, Bhaskar Net, Dhramesh Goyel and Managing Director, Hathway Mr. Jayraman.

Confirming the development, Zee Turner spokesperson said, "We at Zee Turner will not allow any sort of unfair trade practices or unauthorized distribution of our channel signals. Any kind of piracy of our signals will not be tolerated and an appropriate action will be taken against any operator indulging in such mal practices. We are confident that these raids would send a strong message across the industry and other operators indulging in such practices will refrain from doing so"
