ICL 20-20 Indian Championship hits the Ground

Action Packed 20:20 series from 30th November to 16th December in Chandigarh

November 2007: Indian Cricket League, an Essel Group venture, will begin from 30th Nov in Tao Devi Lal Stadium, Chandigarh. Packed in 20:20 format, this action packed tournament will have 20 matches There will be 15 League matches where all teams play each other once, followed by 5 classification matches, including a "Super Sunday" on the 16th Dec where the Grand Final preceded by the 5th/6th place and the 3rd/4th place deciding matches will take place.

Kapil Dev, Chairman-Executive Board, Indian Cricket League commented, "The ICL 20 20 Indian Championship will be held as promised, in December at Chandigarh. We are working hard to deliver a very exciting tournament for the Indian viewers. I am confident that the public in this country will witness for the first time a fully professionally run and organised extravaganza of cricket."

The players from six teams Mumbai Champs, Delhi Jets, Chennai Superstars, Hyderabad Heroes, Chandigarh Lions and Kolkata Tigers have been selected by a Talent Search Committee comprising of ICL Executive Board members, coaches and talent scouts of the Indian Cricket League, has selected these players. Some of the International Players who have joined include Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Farhat, Lance Klusener & Nicky Boje. Some of the Indian players signed include Dinesh Mongia, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, JP Yadav, Deep Dasgupta, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, T Kumaran and U19 captain Ambati Rayudu, all of who have represented India in the past.

Announcing the signing up of these players, Mr. Himanshu Mody, Project Head for the Indian Cricket League said, "It is a matter of great pleasure to see these 51 players joining the Indian Cricket League. These players will join the six teams of the inaugural Indian Cricket League. They will be provided with necessary infrastructure, guidance and training to compete at the highest level." Adding further he said, "We believe that each of these players, represent the best of cricketing talent in the country and internationally. We will continue to search for further talent with killer instinct that can take India to the next level. We now see the teams that will play in the ICL tournament later this year, finally taking shape."

As part of its awareness campaign, Zee Turner is urging its viewers to demand a rightful reduction in their monthly cable bills if Zee Turner channels are missing from their TV screens.
