Zee Turner's fight against Piracy: 15 networks raided during 2007
January 17, 2008, New Delhi: With growing number of complaints for cable piracy related issues, Zee Turner has initiated an aggressive drive to nab the people engaged in such activities. Strong legal steps have been taken in this regard.Several raids have been conducted on behalf of Zee Turner all over the country i.e. Makrana, Rajasthan; Rajnandgaon, Chattisgarh; Dombiwali & Mulund, Mumbai; Narayan Peth & Nigdi, Pune etc in order to curtail Piracy against people indulging or aiding in piracy. As a consequence of these raids delinquents have been arrested, control rooms sealed and equipments have been seized by the Police. Such rigorous measures have played a vital role in restraining people from indulging in piracy and have compelled defaulters to come forward and clear their outstanding.
On 15th December, while raiding a network in Mulund, Mumbai, the culprit was arrested for illegally transmitting signals through DTH leading to piracy and thereby causing wrongful loss to Zee Turner Ltd. The culprit was on remand in police custody as well.
In another raid conducted on 28th of December 2007 atDombivili in Mumbai, the culprit was apprehended in the control room who was indulging in piracy of Zee Channels taking signals from a leading MSO. Accordingly, an FIR was lodged.
The equipment used for piracy by the culprits was seized by the police during the said raids and the control rooms were sealed.
Anti-Piracy raids act as deterrents and are a sure shot way of curbing piracy. Consequences of indulging in Piracy, are fatal for any person's business, leaving the person unemployed, helpless and at the risk of being detained and dealt with in accordance with the law.
According to Mr. Dinesh Jain, National Sales Head, Zee Turner, "Piracy is a crime that takes away the legitimate rights of the creator, distributor of the popular channels and last but not the least Government of the precious revenue. Using this revenue, better facilities would be provided to the consumers both by the broadcasters and the Government. This crime does exist in many parts of the country including major metros across the country. Zee Turner is committed to eradicate this evil with the active help of local administration, city police and watchful viewers of its channels. We also urge the viewers to help us and the society at large by not being silent observer to this crime but to take initiative to report instances of piracy to the nearest police station/ Zee Turner Ltd."
